Roland Emmerich directed the science fiction catastrophe picture 2012, which opened in theaters in the United States on November 13, 2009. The movie stars John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Thomas McCarthy, Oliver Platt, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, and Woody Harrelson. It was distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming started in August 2008 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In its depiction of apocalyptic events that occurred in 2012, the film makes minor references to Mayanism, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, and the 2012 phenomena.
Storyline
When a succession of worldwide disasters threatens to wipe out humanity, a dissatisfied writer fights to keep his family alive.
