A deadly explosion along the Saretho–Dadaab road in Garissa County has claimed the lives of a senior police commander and his driver, raising fresh concerns over security in Kenya’s northeastern region.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, when a government-issued Toyota Land Cruiser attached to Hagadera Police Station struck a suspected improvised explosive device (IED). The explosion killed both occupants at the scene.
